Virtual Observatory for Sustainability of Intensively Managed Environmental Systems
AIS Project Presentation
IACAT Kickoff, Sept. 3, 2008 Don Wuebbles, Barbara Minsker, Praveen Kumar
Don Wuebbles (Atomspheric Sciences), Barbara Minsker (Civil & Environmental Engineering), and Praveen Kumar (Civil & Environmental Engineering) lead a project to develop a virtual observatory for sustainability of intensively managed environmental systems.
This project will create a prototype virtual environmental observatory (VEO) and assess its capabilities for improving sustainability of intensively managed environmental systems (IMES). IMES, which consist of both built and managed environments (including urban infrastructure and agricultural land), are stressed and are expected to become increasingly stressed due to population growth and climate change. This project will address this issue through event-driven research and management to improve both short- and long-term decisions with a dynamic and adaptive self-learning system embodied in the VEO.
