Synergistic Research on Parallel Programming for Petascale Applications

  • IACAT Kick-Off Presentation

    IACAT Kickoff, Sept. 3, 2008
    Duane Johnson, Laxmikant Kale

Duane Johnson (Materials Science and Engineering) and Laxmikant Kale (Computer Science) lead a project in Synergistic Research on Parallel Programming for Petascale Applications. Effectively harnessing the power of supercomputers, like the sustained-petascale Blue Waters system scheduled to come online at the University of Illinois in 2011, will require the coordinated development of petascale parallel programming tools and petascale applications. This project will combine the development of petascale applications in astrophysics, biomolecular science and materials science with complementary computer science research on the tools and technologies needed to support the development of these applications.
